You kids are getting older, or maybe you just need a new mattress. When you are looking for a bed you might be wondering what to look for in a mattress. We have compiled a list of nifty things you can use when thinking about buying a mattress.

What size mattress are you looking for?

  • Twin 39 X 76
  • Full 54 X 76
  • Queen 60 X 80
  • King 76 X 80
  • Cal King 72 X 84

Do you want a polyurethane mattress, a latex mattress, an innerspring mattress, a pillow top mattress, an organic cotton full mattress?

  • Polyurethane mattress - no natural, but firm, may contain no natural material
  • Latex mattress - can contain innerspring as well, or can be totally latex core. Also there are various types of latex core mattress with percentages of natural and synthetic latex
  • Innerspring mattress - how high a coil count are you looking for- Firm, medium or extra firm mattress.
  • Standard size mattress - usually varies form 8- 12 inches; does not have an extra pillow top area.
  • Pillow top mattress - extra pillow comfort, usually from 12- 20 inches in depth. They are very very heavy.
  • Bunk bed or conventional mattress - a bunk bed mattress is often shorter than a conventional full mattress, and does not have a box spring.
  • Organic cotton mattress - innerspring with layers of organic cotton batting

How much do you want to spend? You can spend from $300 to $2,500 on a mattress and bedding. Know what you budget is, but remember you spend a quarter of your life sleeping, so get the best when choosing a mattress.
